Manager, Neil MacFarlane, was delighted with the level of football shown by both teams during Harriers 3-2 win over Altrincham at Aggborough.

The Reds came out on top but were put to the test by an Altrincham side who had a number of chances to grab a share of the spoils late on.

But the Harriers’ chief has hailed the commitment and desire of his team to see the game out and take the full return of points.

“It was a great game of football and a real credit to this level,” he said.

“I thought both teams were fantastic… it was brilliant to come out on the winning side.

“I was over the moon with the start of the game because we were on the front foot and, as the half progressed, we were a real threat with the front three.

“It’s a team ethic that is just incredible. I’ve said that, since day one, my teams have to show that energy every single week and I couldn’t be happier with them.”

Though some clinical first-half finishing put Harriers in a commanding position, it was the visitors who pushed hard at the end to try and take something back to Moss Lane.

The gaffer added that they probably deserved as much, too, but said Harriers got the rewards their drive and work-rate deserved. The test, he says, is to ensure those levels are maintained.

“We have to keep striving to get better all the time,” he went on to say.

“We have that steely determination within the group at the moment that, if we come up against it – as we did today as I thought, at times, Altrincham were very good – we stick together.

“That work ethic was incredible right until the end and, although they maybe deserved a point, we got that break because we put so much into it.”
