Harriers were happy to welcome youngster Heidi Lee Booth to Aggborough as a special guest for the game against Atherstone Town.
Heidi and her family are with us not only to enjoy the game, but to also raise funds towards a new electric wheelchair for the ten-year-old, who has spinal muscular atrophy.
Harriers Director and CEO Kelly Perks-Bevington, a close friend of the family, explained: “Heidi is an amazing young girl and I’d love the Harriers family to not only be able to help her raise some funds but also awareness of the situation that she, myself and other people who live with SMA are in.
“Heid struggles with her mobility and, sadly, funding for a drug which would really aid her and others like her, Spinraza has been denied by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
“That means the chair is, for her, a real lifeline in terms of independence and mobility.”
Heidi’s family have set up a Just Giving page to help raise the funds, while there is also a petition active raising awareness of the Spinraza drug and to have the decision regarding its funding reconsidered.
Kelly added: “Anything we can do to help Katie and her family in terms of fundraising would be amazing but to have the chance to raise awareness of the situation is also really important.”
