KAI LISSIMORE hit a dramatic late winner as a Harriers XI reached the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with a 2-1 victory at Worcester Raiders.

There was a solid presence for Harriers Academy on the night both in the starting line-up and from the bench. Joe Foulkes also played two thirds of the tie before being withdrawn after feeling some discomfort – thankfully it’s not thought to be anything significant for the on-loan youngster.

On a freezing cold night at Sixways, home of Worcester Warriors, Harriers had taken the lead as early as the fourth minute when Jack Tolley showed good persistence to hold off his man in the area before finishing low.

Ethan Freemantle, getting crucial match time, fired across goal and wide on 18 minutes as the visitors dominated the first-half chances, Nick Clayton-Phillips also firing over with 35 on the clock.

Early in the second half, Jaiden White’s curling effort needed a strong save to turn it wide, before a chance at either end saw Tolley finish just the wrong side of the post before Raiders’ Simmonds arrowed an effort over.

Jamie Emery in goal then showed quick reactions to juggle the ball on and away from his goal line as the hosts attacked, before Raiders were level on 69 – the lively Simmonds showed quick feet at the by-line before finish low into the far corner.

A slower second half was more even as both sides went for a winner – Tolley looked almost certain to have nudged the ball over the line after White’s header as appeals were turned down by the officials.

In the end, though, with penalties looming, Lissimore showed real composure to take an excellent ball forward into his stride before lifting up and over the goalkeeper and into the net.

It was a standout moment for the teenage midfielder, with Harriers now into the semi-finals that take place in February.
