HARRIERS picked up a 1-0 win at Cardiff City to open the pre-season friendly campaign of matches.
A narrow success was achieved thanks to an own goal on the stroke of half time as an organised and composed performance from Harriers was rewarded with a victory.
Ralls had the first chance of the night, for the hosts, when his low shot was comfortably gathered by Christian Dibble before Turnbull blazed high over the shot-stopper’s target.
In the 17th minute, Harriers had their first sight of goal for the evening as Ashley Hemmings stepped up for a free kick, only for his delivery to skew high over the bar. Moments later, Seb Thompson found space but also fired over.
Past the half hour, Hemmings watched down a great forward ball and took it in his stride, firing at goal and thwarted by Alnwick between the sticks, whose crucial touch forced a corner.
Cardiff’s Colwill, a couple of minutes later, clipped the foot of the post with a low shot, Harriers going ahead in the final seconds after Hemmings saw a header saved by Alnwick, only for the ball to divert past him off Colwill.
Ten after the restart, City’s Gbadehan planted a downward header wide, Reiss McNally doing similar with his own headed effort seconds later for Harriers.
The second half saw far fewer chances but there was one further opening for each side before the end, Cardiff’s Robinson seeing an angled effort deflected wide before Jack Lambert’s rising effort flew over from around 15 yards.
