PRE-SEASON continued on Tuesday evening, with a goal in each half seeing Tamworth run out 2-0 winners at The Lamb Ground.
An evenly contested opening period saw a lot of end-to-end play in the opening stages, before the first chance came on 14 minutes through the hosts. After breaking down the right flank, a dangerous cross was met by Chris Wreh on the edge of the six-yard box, who could only direct his effort off the right-hand post.
In the 29th minute a quickly taken free-kick enabled Harriers to break down the left, before dangerous cross towards the near-post, looking for the arrival of Kobe Hall, was just gathered by Tamworth goalkeeper Jas Singh.
It was Tamworth who went close again on 33 minutes, this time a looped ball up and over was chased down by Tom McGlinchey who under pressure from Tom Palmer, could only lob his effort over. Moments later Beck-Ray Enoru made his way into the left side of the Harriers box, but could only steer his low-driven strike wide. However it was on the verge of half time that the hosts made their breakthrough, as Enoru was able to pick his spot, and fire into the back of the net.
Minutes after the restart Tamworth doubled their advantage, as the ball made its way across the Harriers box towards Hollis, who let the ball take a bounce before sending it into the back of the net. Harriers nearly responded with a goal of their own on 53 minutes. Excellent footwork by Samson Hewett saw him skip into the left edge of the Tamworth box, his effort blocked by a red and black shirt, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain was quickest to pounce on the rebound, but his strike went wide.
Both sides pushed on as the second half approached the midway stage. It was in the 88th minute Harriers went close to getting a goal back, as a free-kick from just outside the left edge of the Tamworth box was curled in, and met Alex Penny arriving at the far-post, with the defender only able to bundle his effort wide.
The pre-season schedule continues however, as Phil Brown’s side will now head to Telford on Wednesday in a 7:45pm kick-off, before Harriers return to Aggborough where they face Newport County, this Saturday, 27th July.
