ALEX Penny has returned to pre-season training in excellent condition as Kidderminster Harriers continue their summer build-up under Adam Murray.
The experienced defender featured just 10 times across all competitions last season, totalling 840 minutes, after injury setbacks limited his involvement during the 2024-25 campaign.
But the 28-year-old is now back among the group and showing strong signs of progress ahead of the new National League North season.
“All credit goes to him,” said boss Murray.
“I think the injuries he has had, it’s a tricky one. It’s one that we’re going to have to manage through the season to look after him and make sure that he’s ready to go come a matchday.
“But it’s been a hard process for him and we have to make sure that we’re doing everything right now to keep him in the place he’s in – because he’s in a very good place.”
Penny first joined the club in 2020 and has made 125 appearances for Harriers across all competitions, featuring in some of the most iconic moments in the club’s history during that time.
A reliable and vocal presence in the back line, his availability will be a boost going into a busy pre-season schedule, and the season proper beyond that.
“So it’s a big bonus for the group,” added Murray, who saw Penny bank valuable minutes at a training friendly at Swansea on Saturday.
“Obviously a big bonus to me as his manager to have him available. And now, after the right time, he’ll build his minutes up through pre-season, so he’s ready to rock and roll.”
Harriers begin their National League North season on Saturday, 9th August against Scarborough at Aggborough.
