Ladies: FA Cup victory recorded

Ladies win in FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round…

Harriers Ladies played their first competitive game of the 2020/21 season on Sunday, recording victory in the FA Cup.

Following only two pre-season friendlies, the Ladies travelled to face league rivals Solihull Sporting in the Extra Preliminary Round.

The match started well with a slick move between Becky Hall – on her debut – and last season’s top scorer Danni Selmes, who rounded the keeper and then a defender before slotting into the net after 57 seconds.

This woke Solihull up, with the home side putting Harriers under tremendous pressure, hitting the bar and creating several good scoring opportunities that Harriers’ debutant goalkeeper Tilly Hall did well to keep out.

Eventually, Sporting’s pressure paid off and they got a deserved equaliser with a thunderous shot from outside the box, giving Hall no chance.

Harriers then started to string a few passing moves together, and after a couple of corners it was Selmes again who put it into the net on the turn, seeing Harriers into the interval ahead.

The second half saw the Ladies step their game up, Solihull still pressing for an equaliser and they thought they had it, but was ruled out for offside.

Harriers scored a third through Becky Hall who ran from just inside the Sporting half and hit it over the keeper from outside the box.

The game was put to bed and Harriers’ place in the next round was sealed when Selmes completed her hat trick with a volley from inside the box, giving the keeper no chance.

Now through to the First Qualifying Round, Harriers will host Crusaders – who play a league higher – on September 20th.

Next up for the Ladies is the opening fixture of their league season, on Sunday 13th September at home against local rivals Cookley Sports.
