Saturday: Gateshead v Harriers

We look ahead to Saturday’s National League North trip to Gateshead…

HARRIERS visit a National League club in waiting in Gateshead on Saturday, says boss Russ Penn.

After a ten-day break, the Reds get back to action with the lengthy trek to the International Stadium.

It will be a chance for Harriers to get back to winning ways after defeat to Kettering last time out, and hopefully kick start another unbeaten run.

Gateshead meanwhile are also among the season’s early pace-setters and are in the midst of a strong spell of games unbeaten themselves, having already beaten the likes of Gloucester and Chester this term.

Penn, a former Gateshead player, was complimentary of his former side when previewing the game on our YouTube channel, and fancies it will be a good game to watch.

“It’s a club I’ve got an association with – I know a lot of people up there,” he said.

“They’re a full-time outfit like ourselves so we’re really looking forward to it, as the neutral would be.

“They got relegated by default two years ago [but] they’re still a National League team for me and they’re looking to get back up there as soon as possible, so it’ll be a tough test.

“Mike has come in and done a great job and they’ll be looking to finish as high as possible.”

The contest is the first in another busy period of games for both teams.

After the weekend, teams in the ‘North’ enter the FA Trophy next week before more league action as we move into Christmas.

Penn added: “We’ve got to be aware and not surprised by what’s around the corner, as this season is different!

“We can only prepare as a team and a club for the next game, and that’s all we try to do.”

Penn will run the rule over any knocks and niggles ahead of Saturday’s game, but will likely welcome Alex Penny back to the fold after he missed the Curzon and Kettering games through illness.

Kick-off on Saturday is at 3:00pm.

The game will not be open for supporters to attend, but Gateshead are providing a live streaming service – full details on which can be found on their website.
