Saturday: Boston v Harriers

A look ahead to our trip to the Jakemans Stadium on Saturday…

HARRIERS face the tough task of heading to a side with title winning credentials on Saturday, says boss Russ Penn.

The Reds make the trek to the Jakemans Stadium to tackle a Pilgrims side unbeaten in their last four and with three straight wins under their belt.

Progress in the FA Trophy came courtesy of a cracking result at league rivals Brackley Town last month, that win straddled by league victories against Darlington and Kettering.

The Poppies had surged into an early lead but three further goals from United without reply saw them pick up another three points.

This came after an indifferent start to the term, the Lincolnshire side shrugging off those early results to put together a number of good runs since.

For Harriers, this Boston test kicks off a busy run of fixtures heading into the festive period – a stretch that includes another trip to United next weekend in the Trophy as well as Tuesday’s jaunt to Curzon Ashton.

Understandably, the boss says he’ll need to call on everyone in his squad to play their part – starting with Saturday’s encounter with Craig Elliott’s side.

“It is a busy period,” he told our YouTube channel. “There are a lot of games in a short space of time.

“We are going to need all the squad and that’s what makes training and matches so competitive at the moment because no one can rest of their laurels.

“We are here to win the next game, and the next game is a really tough one against one of my favourites to win the league.

“They’re a team on form again and they’ve had good results against Brackley and Kettering away having been 2-0 down.

“They’ve got good players and a good, experienced side, a good experienced manager for the level and a new stadium – what’s not to enjoy about Saturday?

“We’re going to go there, looking forward to it and confident, and try and win the game.”

Harriers will look to continue their own good run of form on Saturday after positive results of their own in the league, FA Cup and FA Trophy.

The Reds are at least without any fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip, with skipper Lewis Montrose edging closer to full fitness.

As a reminder, Harriers fans can purchase tickets for the match in advance.

Kick-off at Boston on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
