HARRIERS host Boston United at Aggborough on Tuesday, with Russ Penn saying Matt Preston remains right behind the team’s charge for a successful finish.
The defender is out of action as he recovers from the serious ankle injury sustained in the abandoned game against Alfreton on Saturday.
Preston himself is said to be in reasonably good spirits as he awaits further surgery in hospital later this week, with Harriers in constant contact.
While the rest of the squad now must focus on the task in hand – starting with the visit of the Pilgrims to Worcestershire on Tuesday night.
“He has been in dialogue with the lads and is talking,” said the boss of the on-loan Solihull man.
“I’ve spoken to him as well and he’s in good spirits – he wants to make it worth it now as his short spell here was a good spell.
“He’s on the road to recovery now and he wishes us all the best and that’s it – football is a horrible, selfish game sometimes and we’ve got another game to try and win on Tuesday.
“Us and Solihull will look after him… he’ll want us to achieve what we want to achieve in the next ten weeks. He’ll be supporting us and, no doubt, he’ll be walking or hobbling through the door in the next couple of months!”
Come Tuesday night and Harriers will meet a Boston side who’ve not played for ten days following the postponement of their league fixture last Saturday.
They picked up a 1-1 draw at home to Southport prior to that, not long after netting sizable wins over Farsley (3-0) and Chester (4-0).
There are signs that new boss Paul Cox is getting United into gear – and they only sit four points outside the play-offs, with two games in hand.
“They were my favourites up there at the start of the season,” added Penn.
“Things obviously weren’t going their way under the old manager, and they’ve brought Paul in who knows the level really well.
“He did really well at Kettering and they’ll want to come here and spoil the party. It’s up to us to not let that happen and to be proactive as we have been.
“We have to be fully confident in knowing that a good performance will win us the game.”
Harriers welcomed Ethan Freemantle back into the squad on Saturday after a hamstring injury, so he’s now fully available to the gaffer.
Geraldo Bajrami was nursing a knock and wasn’t selected at the weekend but will be assessed going into Tuesday’s kick-off.
Harriers and Boston fans are reminded that there is no longer the facility to pay cash at the turnstiles at Aggborough.
You can still pay in person on the day of the game at the Ticket Office (including in cash), but this incurs a £2 increase on our standard match day prices, so your best bet is to purchase in advance of the night if you can – as this will also potentially save you some queueing!
You can do so online via our ticketing platform or, if you need assistance, by calling 01562 823 931 during opening hours.
Again, it is still possible to buy your tickets at the Ticket Office (up to 15 minutes after kick-off), but you can’t pay cash at the turnstile.
Kick-off at Aggborough is at 7:45pm.
Not able to attend tonight? Don’t forget you can still get your match day programme by placing an order online (postal only).
Copies will also be on sale throughout the ground and at the Club Shop.
