HARRIERS fell to another costly defeat at Aggborough on Tuesday, going down 1-0 to Alfreton Town.

The visitors had the better of the chances throughout the evening and eventually found a way through thanks to a free kick and header from striker Matt Rhead with just 14 minutes left to play.

It was ultimately another frustrating evening for the home side, particularly in front of goal. Much as with Bradford on Saturday, the Reds only really got going in attack for a short, second-half spell and paid the price for what was otherwise a performance that fell below their own high standards from this season.

The first half was a fairly quiet affair all around, but Alfreton created a trio of good chances, Yusifu Ceesay dragging wide on 12 minutes, before Luke Simpson's save denied Adam Lund who struck low and hard with 38 minutes played.

Four minutes later Lund was the man at the point of the attack again - he almost scored an outrageous goal as he rose high with an athletic attempt that saw him stab a ball in the air on to the bar.

Early in the second period, Harriers had sights of goal when Omari Sterling bagged a brace of opportunities; seeing one fizzing shot blocked away for a corner before another flashed off target. Three minutes later, Morgan-Smith climbed high in the area to thumb a Sterling free kick against the bar.

That ended up being the final chance of Harriers' best spell on the night. Alfreton soaked it up well and took the lead with 74 minutes gone, a free-kick played deep into the area, Rhead's looping header clipping the post on its way into the net.

Sam Austin tried to respond with as shot five minutes later before Foulkes did similar, seeing an effort held by Willis, but that was as close as things came to an equaliser.
