KEITH Lowe will leave Harriers at the end of this season as the club stalwart begins a new chapter in his career both in and out of football.

The 36-year-old has featured across three different spells for the Reds, first signing in 2008 before returning in both 2016 and 2020.

In that time, he has established himself as a firm favourite with the Aggborough faithful, racking up the better part of 200 appearances in red, not least some imperious showings in the league and FA Cup this season.

So far in his career he’s also featured extensively across the EFL and non-league for Cheltenham, York and Macclesfield Town, enduring the emotion and ups and downs of play-offs, promotions and relegations all along the way.

The defender has no plans to hang up his boots just yet but has confirmed he’ll play his final games in full-time football and for Harriers between now and the end of the term.

From 2022/23 he’ll look to play part-time football whilst continuing to work as a Teaching Assistant after spending time in a similar role in recent years.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt more comfortable or content at a club than I am at Kidderminster. Keith Lowe

“I’ve enjoyed an incredible career in football,” he told harriers.co.uk.

“I’m not ready to stop yet and am very much planning to play part-time next year, but it feels like now is the time to move away from the full-time game and think about the future and the career I’ve been building in schools.

“I’m lucky enough to have played for some great clubs, great managers and great fans, but in all honesty, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more comfortable or content at a club than I am at Kidderminster.

“I’ve made memories and friends for life here, and it feels like closing this chapter in my career while I’m at Aggborough and with the support of the Harriers fans is the obvious choice.

“In the meantime, this is a great group of lads working hard towards a goal of getting promoted this season and I’m determined to play as big a part in that as I can in the next few weeks.”

Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be hearing more from Keith and looking back at his time with the club, starting with a special focus in Saturday’s match day programme for the game against Guiseley.

As he’s told me, though, we have a job we want to finish together first.” Russ Penn

Summing up the sentiment of many at the club, boss Russ Penn says in his notes for the issue of The Harrier: “In football, he’s my best friend. We were team mates at Cheltenham, York and especially here at Kidderminster where we had some great times.

“Off the pitch, our families have been close for years and we’ll obviously remain that way, but he’ll be a big miss for us as a football club, there’s no doubt about it. “

“He’ll be welcome back here at Aggborough any time in future. As he’s told me, though, we have a job we want to finish together first.”

You can pre order your copy of Saturday’s match programme (for postage only) now, and we look forward to giving Keith a proper Harriers send off with a strong end to the season.
