HARRIERS failed to heat up a frozen Aggborough Stadium as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chester.

Both teams did their bit to ensure a frozen playing surface, which worsened as the game went on, was never really a factor, but it was the Chester fans who really felt warmed on the night as they pocketed the points.

The early openings of the night saw Declan Weeks fire wide on his latest return to Aggborough, while Caleb Richards took the perfect touch to control Paddy McLaughlin’s pass, his shot blazing wide on seven minutes.

Weeks again struck low and wide on 17 minutes before, seconds later, Zak Brown overstretched to meet an outstanding Joe Leesley in the area, his effort flying over the bar.

Before the break Harriers had further half chances through Keziah Martin’s blocked shot and another Richards run that ended with a powerful effort wide.

Just 90 seconds into the second half, though, Chester where ahead when Weeks spun on the spot before guiding a low shot past Tom Billson from 18 yards.

Chester were only denied a quickfire second five minutes later when McNally superbly blocked Caton’s close range effort, with Ashley Hemmings taking aim from distance at the other end seven minutes later, his shot flashing wide.

Two minutes past the hour a superb stop from Chester goalkeeper Tyrer kept Harriers at bay as McLaughlin volleyed a ball towards the top corner, going in search of a first goal for the club.

The home side did actually have the ball in the net seconds later but, having stayed marginally offside, Ben Margetson’s smart finish was ruled out.

Harriers remained in the ascendancy for much of the finale, but were undone by a cruel blow on the counter in the 93rd minute, Billson and Rogers seemingly giving each other mixed signals as the latte nudged the ball beyond the former to Caton who did the rest to seal the three points for the Seals.
