HARRIERS tackle two tough National League away tasks on the bounce beginning at York City on Saturday.

Russ Penn takes the Reds to one of his former clubs this weekend, in search of a first victory of the new campaign.

That will be followed quickly by a journey to AFC Fylde on Tuesday night, with the Coasters having achieved promotion along with Harriers last term.

Penn knows the duo represent quite the sizable challenge to his charges, but insists he’ll only be focusing on the Minstermen going into Saturday.

Looking ahead, the gaffer said: “Two really tough games, travel-wise and opposition wise.

“We’ve played both teams in the last couple of years and I know all about York myself, so we’ll go there full of confidence and looking to win the game.

“Fylde will take care of itself after that but it’s full steam ahead for York.

“We watched the game last Saturday and have had our reports on them.. but it’s got to be about us.”

While Harriers opened their National League account with a goalless draw at home to Woking last weekend, City were dealt a late defeat with ten men at Wealdstone.

Both sides will be keen to notch that first triumph of the term come Saturday – though Harriers will have to do it without the services of skipper Shane Byrne.

Penn confirmed on Thursday that Byrne will be out long term due to a knee injury suffered against Woking.

The boss said the squad will move forward and utilise the strength in the ranks as well as looking at potential new recruits.

He went on to add: “I’m not going to waffle and say we’re going to get a like-for-like replacement because you can’t replace Captains – he was our Captain who got us promoted last year.

“It is obviously going to hit us hard, but it is one player, and one player doesn’t make a team.

“We’ll use what we’ve got and we’ll look to bring someone in.”

This will be a first visit for Harriers to the LNER Community Stadium since a late Sam Austin winner gave the visitors a 2- 1 win just under two years ago.

It’ll be a 37th meeting between the two sides since 2000.

Kick-off at York on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
