A SUPERB Jack Lambert goal gave Harriers a second, huge away win in a matter of days on Tuesday night as the Reds beat Solihull Moors 1-0.
Lambert’s dazzling second-half effort was part of arguably one of the team performances of the season, just days after the Reds delivered similar in upsetting Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
Though Moors created a greater number of chances than the Latics last time out, Harriers still managed to dominate large spells of the encounter, the only downside being the loss of Krystian Pearce thanks to a late red card for two yellows.
Ashley Hemmings enjoyed a lively night and was quickly in amongst the action. His sixth-minute free kick looked set for the top corner of the net, only for the bar to intervene as it clattered off the woodwork.
Home goalkeeper Hayes showed good alertness to beat away a swerving Lambert effort with 20 played, before Zak Brown volleyed over from a corner.
Though Moors had half chances through Beck and Campbell in the first half-hour or so, it was Warburton who spurned easily their best chance of the night on 40 minutes. The ball fell kindly to him six yards out, but he stabbed his shot over the target with just Christian Dibble to beat.
The second half wasn’t even five minutes old when Lambert’s goal, the eventual winner, arrived. He turned superbly around his man in midfield before moving into space and firing from 20 yards with an effort that left Hayes with absolutely no chance.
Dibble made his best save of the night just six minutes later. Tyrese Shade’s shot from 20 yards deflected off a Harriers man and threatened to deceive Dibble, but he stood up to get a leg to the ball and make the stop.
Harriers then set about soaking up everything the Moors could throw at them, doing a superb job at restricting them to few, if any, chances of note late in the game.
In fact, four minutes into time added on, it was almost 2-0. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas showed great awareness to keep the ball and play in Hemmings who advanced, curling a shot wide of the target.
Pearce was flashed a second yellow two minutes later after he’d illegally halted one Moors advance, but the ten men maintained the clean sheet as the game edged into its 100th minute and, finally, its conclusion.
