A look back to Tuesday night’s trip to Woking in the National League…

TWO late goals saw Harriers fall to a 2-1 defeat at Woking despite leading through Jack Lambert’s goal.

Lambert’s exquisite first half effort had Harriers in an early lead in a match they controlled for the first hour.

The hosts had even taken the lead – or thought they had at least, but after a player on the line hurried to finish a ball that was already on its way in, the Cards found themselves thwarted by the offside flag.

Harriers set about working goalkeeper Jaaskelainen and did so on seven minutes when Richards strode onto a cross-field pass, firing at goal and forcing the stopper to palm the ball away to safety.

The visitors were in front just 11 minutes later. Hemmings’ clearance wasn’t cleared from the six-yard area sufficiently, and a Woking head eventually nodded it into the path of Lambert who took a touch before lifting the ball perfectly over the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

Eight minutes later, Zak Brown fired firmly at goal from close range and was denied only by a deflection, Hemmings then having a shot smothered by Jaaskelainen at the near post before Morgan-Smith, on the stroke of the interval, almost flicked the ball into the net for a second, Jaaskelainen thwarting him with good alertness to save.

Come the hour it was again Harriers going close. Hemmings did well to dig out a delivery to Richards, who planted a header wide of the target at the far post.

Woking came into the game in terms of chances around the 70th minute mark. Luker hit a powerful drive that Dibble needed to turn aside, before Jaaskelainen did well to beat away Lambert’s free kick at the other end.

Having marshalled the game so well up to that point, Harriers will be disappointed to have let things slip from there, Woking striking twice in the last quarter-hour to seal a remarkable comeback and take all three points.

There was a touch of fortune about the first – Edwards struck a free kickĀ  that just evaded Byrne before squeezing under the grasp of Dibble and into the back of the net.

With Harriers reeling for the first time, the Cards pounced and secured victory from the penalty spot after a foul in the area. Charlie Kendall’s effort from 12 yards was even saved by Dibble – superbly – but there was no stopping the same man following up with a headed effort into the net.
