HARRIERS were held to a goalless draw by York City at Aggborough on Saturday.
Harriers carved out by far the greater number of chances on the day, but were unable to break down a stubborn City defence enough to seriously trouble the goalkeeper as the visitors held on to secure a first point under their new manager.
After Cole Kpekawa had the first chance of the day, firing an effort over the bar on the angle, Ashley Hemmings went close on 15 minutes. A free kick, awarded just outside the penalty area, presented the marksman with a tight angle to work with, but he went for goal and drove narrowly over the target.
Hemmings was again involved past the half-hour. He beat his man and pulled the ball back to Morgan-Smith, but the striker’s effort from inside the area was well blocked.
Chances were few and far between, so Hemmings’ effort on the hour has to go down as a chance; his driven effort fumbled slightly by George Sykes-Kenworthy, who recovered well enough to ensure there was no follow-up effort.
Christian Dibble held comfortable from York’s Batty five minutes later, before Caleb Richards sent the ball crashing over the upright after he’d picked up on Reiss McNally’s deep cross.
The introduction of Todd Miller off the bench for his home debut livened things up a little further; he poured forward with the ball with 12 left but drove at Sykes-Kenworthy.
Zak Brown crossed for another sub in Gold Omotyo with five remaining, but the striker hit high of the target, Sykes-Kenworthy able to gobble up an effort from Morgan-Smith three minutes later as the striker and Hemmings hit City on the break.
