HARRIERS made it into the Second Round proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a superb win over Port Vale.

The meeting of the two West Midlands Regional League Premier Division sides at COSE promised a big reward and it was Harriers who secured it thanks to a comprehensive performance.

Andy Fisher’s charges twice went close in the opening quarter-hour before taking the lead with 17 minutes on the clock when debutant Mill Rogers found the net.

Vale did come into the game a little more at 1-0, but it was crucially Harriers who bagged a second just before half time from the penalty spot, Eloise Harris continuing her strong season with composure from the spot to double the team’s advantage.

The visitors would no doubt have been plotting a major response at the break but, within seconds of the restart, it was Harriers who arguably put the tie to bed.

Striker Beth Gallagher, another recent addition to the squad following her arrival from Solihull, showed great reactions and instinct to pounce on a loose pass back and notch to give Harriers a third.

Boosted by four changes as the half wore on, Vale did reduce the arrears with their own goal from the penalty spot on 73 minutes, but there was to be no comeback, Harriers upping the gears again before the end to force shot-stopper Watts into a couple of important saves to prevent a fourth goal.

After the game, Fisher commented: “I am delighted for the club and moreso for this squad to have made the Second Round Proper. It’s an excellent achievement.”
