Recap: Harriers 2-0 Warrington

A look back to Saturday

HARRIERS eased to a thoroughly professional and deserved 2-0 win over Warrington Town at Aggborough.

As dominant as the Reds were throughout almost the entire contest, the victory was as much secured by the two goals at one end as they were by a superb save at the other with just 55 seconds on the clock; Rodwell-Grant’s cross for Warrington met by a header from Amis that Dibble superbly tipped over the bar.

With the clean sheet intact, Harriers then took over. Goalkeeper did well to smother Morgan-Smith’s advance on 14 minutes, then saving from Kouhyar five minutes later. The former did have the ball in the back of the net on the half-hour after rounding the stopper and finishing but did so from an offside position – the flag thwarting him.

A strong move in first half added time went within a whisker of putting Harriers ahead. Richards and Devine combined beautifully before Kouhyar rolled in Reynolds, but his low and angled finished was narrowly wide with Atherton beaten.

The home side set a good pace at the start of the second half and after numerous efforts were blocked and McNally headed wide, the defender put his team in front with a headed finish back across goal with 55 minutes gone, the ball squeezing just inside the far corner.

Harriers were purring at that stage and quickly made it 2-0. Kouhyar set the ball rolling, picking up the ball from Richards before freeing Devine and getting on his bike to keep up with the attack, arriving on the spot just in the nick of time to finish off an excellent passing move to power into the net from a Foulkes cross.

Atherton then showed good hands to keep his side just about within reach, Hemmings having a distance effort held before palming away a cross that Brown, with the recycled ball, curled over the target.

Devine then dropped a great ball into the area that Reynolds tried to finish with his boot then his head, both blocked in superb style by the visitors, Morgan-Smith’s header seconds later then hitting the bar before a desperate defender covered the ball back to the goalkeeper.

Kouhyar then saw another dive held on 82 minutes, before the visitors were reduced to ten men; McDonald sent off for picking up two yellow cards in as many minutes.

Brown would see another effort saved in the final seconds, but Harriers saw out the win with minimum fuss and move on to Tuesday when Darlington come to town.
