HARRIERS put in one of their most determined and professional displays of the season to win 1-0 at Brackley Town on Tuesday night.

Ashley Hemmings struck for the 29th time this season with the game’s only goal, but Harriers had chances to win by more at St James’ Park.

The pivotal moment of the game arrived on just four minutes; Dave Worrall aiming a perfect cross squarely on to the head of Hemmings who deftly glanced it into the net via the far post.

Danny Newton might’ve had Brackley level just four minutes later when he saw his volley deflected aside, before Kyle Morrison’s header from a deep delivery into the box needed a good pair of hands from goalkeeper Jonny Maxted.

Brackley’s best chance of the game came nine minutes into the second half. A deep cross was headed across goal and toward Matt Lowe who, from six yards, was denied by a goal-line clearance from Morrison.

It wasn’t all defending from Harriers – on 67 minutes they went close to a second when Hemmings sent a firm effort towards Maxted that the keeper tipped aside with little to spare.

Maxted’s finest work of the night came with 76 played. From over 20 yards, Hemmings’ driven free kick was given a pivotal touch on to the underside of the bar by the stopper, before Brackley were able to clear.

In the sixth of seven minutes of added time, Connor Hall aimed a shot around the body of his man that Christian Dibble watched carefully before turning away from goal, an act that confirmed the destination of the three points.
