EMEKA Obi’s first Harriers goal coupled with a strong defensive rear-guard earned the Reds a 1-0 win at King’s Lynn Town.

The decisive goal came midway through the first half when a fine delivery from Joe Foulkes was met by a determined header from Seb Thompson. Whether Thompson’s effort was going in or not became irrelevant as Obi reacted quickest to make sure the ball crossed the line, giving Harriers a precious advantage.

From then on, it was a display built on discipline and determination. Pierce Bird typified that resilience with an exceptional covering challenge to deny Michael Gyasi, who had broken clear.

Harriers continued to show threat on the break after half-time, as Ryley Reynolds saw a chance blocked inside the area, while Penny also saw an effort fly over the target from close range after a set-piece.

King’s Lynn pressed for a leveller and enjoyed spells of possession, with Ross Crane heading wide and Morgan Williams seeing a powerful free-kick beaten away by Christian Dibble.

The home side’s closest moment came five minutes from time when substitute Sam Collins struck the post from inside the area, but the Harriers defence stood firm once more to scramble the danger away.

Adam Murray’s men had earlier shown their organisation when Gyasi sent a strike narrowly wide in the first half, and when Reece Hall-Johnson lifted an effort well over the bar early in the second period.

With Dibble commanding in goal and those in front of him showing determination to a man, Harriers saw out the closing stages strongly to ensure the travelling supporters went home happy.
