A look back at a forgettable afternoon at Aggborough

HARRIERS suffered a nightmare afternoon at Aggborough as they were handed a 5-1 defeat by free-scoring Radcliffe.
Kurt Willoughby’s second goal for the Reds pulled one back at 2-1 in the first half and the home side had a number of chances to bag more, but costly defending at four set pieces undid any good work and left Radcliffe comfortable and deserved winners on the day.
The opening exchanges brought early signs of threat from both sides, Danny Greenfield’s effort well closed down at one end before Tobi Sho-Silva went close with a stooping header from Joe Foulkes’ cross.
Radcliffe drew first blood after 13 minutes, Greenfield driving a fine finish across Christian Dibble and into the far corner. Six minutes later the visitors struck again – two corners in quick succession ending with David Ball prodding home from close range to make it 2-0.
Harriers responded well and were rewarded on 22 minutes. Dan Mooney’s sharp control and low strike forced a save from Mateusz Hewelt, but Willoughby reacted quickest to fire in the rebound and halve the deficit.
Any hopes of momentum were short-lived, however, as Jordan Hulme’s unchallenged header from another corner restored Radcliffe’s two-goal cushion at 3-1.
Before the break, Mooney forced a strong save from Hewelt’s feet and Willoughby stretched to send another effort just over as Harriers looked to find a way back.
The Reds continued to push after the restart, but their task was made harder on the hour when Emeka Obi received a second yellow card for a high boot as he attempted an overhead kick.
Despite being down to ten men, Harriers continued to compete. Reece Hall’s mazy run and blocked shot typified the effort still being shown, while Willoughby and Foulkes both went close late on – the latter slicing into the side netting.
But Radcliffe’s set-piece threat remained decisive, and they capitalised again in the closing stages. Lois Maynard fired home after another corner wasn’t cleared to make it 4-1, before Rio Clegg bundled in a fifth in stoppage time after the ball came back off the woodwork.
