Watkiss named Assistant Manager

A welcome to Adam Murray’s new Number 2

HARRIERS can confirm the appointment of Stuart Watkiss as Assistant Manager to Adam Murray at Aggborough.

The 59-year-old brings a wealth of football experience to the dugout, having spent time managing and coaching in England and overseas for the last two decades.

That CV of course includes a brief spell as Manager here in DY10, Watkiss in charge at Aggborough in League 2 and the National League between 2004 and 2006.

He’s since gone on to spend time at Barnsley, Grimsby, and Hull as well as working in India and Bangladesh.

Most recently he was Number 2 to Murray at Eastbourne, working closely with the boss there to steer the club from relegation in 2024, leaving part way through a season in which the side went on to challenge for the National League South title.

The pair are reunited back at Aggborough, with the Manager explaining: “It’s something I didn’t feel I needed in the summer, but with the way we’re looking at our environment and the way we want to move the staff around to get the best out of what we’ve got in terms of the players here, and bringing a bit more knowledge and experience to the staff, it helps me, to be honest.

“He’s an older head and we’ve been successful together and have a lot of experience.

“He’s been there an done it and is as hard as nails – it’s great to get Stu on board, it will give us that extra bite, which I think we need.”

Murray added: “He used to be my Manager at Mansfield, and he’s been at this club before, so he understands the dynamics of the club.

“He’ll add a lot in terms of that, but the main thing is that he’s got a lot of football knowledge, you can’t put a price on the experience he’s got.”

Watkiss will be in the dugout for this weekend’s National League North trip to Chester.
