HARRIERS eased into the Third Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy with a fully deserved 3-0 win over Corby Town at Aggborough.
It was a professional display from Adam Murray’s side, who controlled the afternoon, showed a clinical edge when the chances arrived, and defended with real assurance whenever the hard-working visitors threatened.
Corby had the very first sight of goal inside three minutes when Rhys Kelly headed over from a free kick, but from that point Harriers settled and were rarely troubled. The visitors stayed compact and defended their box with numbers, making the opening stages tight, but chances gradually began to appear.
The first fell on 25 minutes when Kam Kandola slid in Michael Gyasi, whose low strike was blocked well by goalkeeper Jake Laban. Just before the break, Tobi Sho-Silva almost stretched to beat Laban to a ball over the top, only for the keeper to hold.
Harriers found their breakthrough in first half stoppage time. A slip in the Corby back line released Gyasi, who kept his composure and unselfishly rolled the ball across for Luke Spokes to guide home from close range. At the other end, Christian Dibble had to make a solid parry moments later from a well-struck free kick by Harrison Jones, ensuring the hosts led at the interval.
Murray made a double change at the restart, with Jordan Tunnicliffe and Amari Morgan-Smith replacing Emeka Obi and Sho-Silva, and both substitutes immediately made an impact. Morgan-Smith forced an early save with a driven effort, before Tunnicliffe headed wide from the resulting corner.
The second goal arrived on 56 minutes and was a superb team move. Zanda Siziba delivered a brilliant hanging cross from the right and Morgan-Smith rose to meet it with a sublime header that dropped perfectly into the far corner.
Gyasi fired over from the edge of the area shortly afterwards, and Harriers kept pushing.
Tunnicliffe was twice denied as he met set pieces with strong headers, one saved by Alban and another glancing just wide.
George Walker then showed blistering pace on 78 minutes to surge in behind and square for Morgan-Smith, who steered narrowly wide on the stretch.
The third goal eventually came six minutes from time. Kurt Willoughby timed his run expertly to meet a ball forward, held his composure one on one with the goalkeeper, and finished superbly to round off the scoring.
It was a calm, confident display from Harriers, who managed the contest impressively and moved into the next round with minimum fuss.
