Recap: Harriers 1-3 Sutton Coldfield Town

Harriers Women slip to defeat…

The first Harriers Women fixture of the new year saw them face Sutton Coldfield Town in a very rainy encounter in Droitwich, writes Milja Stevenson.

The first half saw a strong battle, with both sides competing well in difficult conditions. Sutton took the lead in the 14th minute of the game through Eva Cassidy, but Harriers responded just 3 minutes later – equalising through an excellent Beth Grady overhead kick, which beat the Sutton ‘keeper to level things up again.

The rest of the first half saw a continued battle between the two sides with chances at both ends, but neither side was able to find a breakthrough before the interval.

The second half saw Harriers come out strong, creating an early opportunity from range which was saved by the Sutton goalkeeper. However, Sutton regained the lead in the 51st minute, with Chloe Dann tapping the ball into the back of the net.

A change shortly after saw Seanna McCann make her Harriers debut, and Mill Rogers make her return. Despite this, Eva Cassidy managed to double Sutton’s lead, by getting her second of the game in the 71st minute, spurring Sutton on to see out the contest and give them a 1-3 victory.

This result leaves Harriers just one point above the relegation places, an area they will be eager to climb out of in the coming weeks.

Attention now turns to next Sunday, as they will be looking to beat local rivals Stourbridge, where a win would see Harriers climb above them in the table.
