HARRIERS sealed their place in the play-offs in emphatic style on Saturday, coming from behind to beat King’s Lynn Town 4-1 at Aggborough.
An early setback did little to knock the side out of stride and, after falling behind inside six minutes, Harriers responded superbly to turn the game around before the break. Three first-half goals put Adam Murray’s men firmly in control before a fourth after the interval wrapped up a thoroughly deserved victory.
The visitors struck first when Harriers could not fully deal with the game’s first corner and Ross Crane finished smartly from the edge of the area, though Rhys Lovett’s view was clearly impeded by a player offside.
Harriers were quick to settle. A neat corner created the first opening in response, with Ryley Reynolds seeing a shot blocked before Charlie Cooper’s follow-up flew off target.
The leveller arrived on 11 minutes and it was a fine goal in transition. Harriers cleared their lines inside their own box and broke forward rapidly through Reynolds, whose deep cross found Kieren Donnelly unmarked to finish.
Brayden Johnson then surged away down the flank on 19 minutes and fizzed a dangerous ball across the six-yard box which just skipped beyond both a defender and Donnelly at the far post.
Two minutes later, Harriers had their reward. Reece Devine delivered a superb ball into the box and George Walker was there at the far post to help it home for 2-1.
Harriers were now on top. Richard Faakye strode forward from defence on 24 minutes and tried his luck from distance, lifting his effort over, before Walker’s inviting cross ten minutes later found Donnelly, whose downward header was beaten away by Aaron Chapman.
The pressure did not relent and a third goal followed on 35 minutes. With King’s Lynn unable to clear their lines, Owen Evans reacted sharply and blasted home to extend the lead.
Harriers carried that momentum into the second half and put the game beyond doubt on 58 minutes. Consecutive corners kept the visitors pinned in and the pressure eventually told, with an Evans ball flicked on by Donnelly, Obi on hand to apply the very final touch.
Crane had a sight of goal just after the hour but skewed his effort wide, while Harriers continued to look the more threatening side. David Davis and Danny Waldron were introduced with 20 minutes to play, before Amari Morgan-Smith, Jack Clarke and Reece Hall were all sent on later in the half.
Donnelly almost added another on 71 minutes when he let fly from distance, while Reynolds forced Chapman into a spill four minutes later after a low, swerving strike. Late on, Emeka Obi rose to meet a deep free kick but glanced his header wide.
By then, the job was long since done. After an early wobble, Harriers were excellent, roaring back to lead at the break and seeing the game out comfortably to make certain of their place in the play-offs with a crucial few games left to gather momentum.
