HARRIERS Women fell to a 5-0 defeat against a strong Peterborough United Women side on Sunday, as the visitors sealed the FAWNL Division One Midlands title.
Harriers’ final home game of the campaign saw them host title-chasing Posh, who are thus far undefeated this season.
The opening ten minutes saw Peterborough impose themselves on the game, taking the lead in the tenth minute through Niamh Reynolds. Wilshaw looked to double the advantage in the 16th minute, however Jenkins did well to tip the effort from distance onto the woodwork and out for a corner.
Peterborough were able to increase their lead just two minutes later as Niamh Connor headed home at the far post from a corner. Connor added her second in the 24th minute, meeting another corner with a header that deflected into the back of the net.
More chances followed for Posh, who grabbed a fourth through Keir Perkins, who fired home a rebounded shot. The remainder of the first half saw further opportunities for the visitors, with Harriers unable to respond as the sides went into the break.
Posh came out after the restart showing their intent to add a fifth, and were rewarded in the 50th minute as Anna Pitt drilled her effort beyond Jenkins.
A double save in the 53rd minute denied Peterborough again, with Grace Rogers making the initial block before Jenkins reacted well to stop the follow-up. A more even contest developed as the half progressed, as Jenkins continued to impress – tipping an effort over the bar in the 74th minute, before another goal-line block just moments later. She was called into action again in the 81st minute to deny the visitors once more.
Harriers had a late sight of goal in the 87th minute, as McCann broke forward, but she was brought down and the advantage played ultimately saw the move break down. The game ended 5-0 to the visitors, confirming their league title.
Harriers face their final game of the season on Sunday 26th April as they travel to Sutton Coldfield Town, where they will be looking to confirm their place in Tier 4 next season.
