HARRIERS finally kickstart their National League campaign on Saturday with the trip to Hornchurch.

Paul Wotton takes his newly-assembled squad to tackle the curtain raiser after a busy summer – and he’s fully aware of how difficult the first challenge will be.

Familiar with Hornchurch from his time with Torquay, the Aggborough chief warned it will be a tough day at the office as two newly-promoted sides meet – our hosts undoubtedly benefitting from greater squad continuity over the summer.

Asked what Harriers will face on Saturday, he said: “You’re going to get a well-organised team with an excellent manager. Very, very good manager. Good guy as well.

“They’ve recruited well in the summer. They’ve had a successful season last year. They’ve got a togetherness. They’ve got a squad that’s been together a little bit now, and they’ve got a wealth of experience as well, so they’ve got some players who have been there and done it.

“It’s going to be as tough a first away game of the season as you can get, I think.

“They’re two teams who succeeded last year. One team’s stayed together and one team hasn’t, so it’s a tough place to go.”

Harriers will at least hope to travel south relatively injury free after a summer of toil in the heat for all teams.

Newest signings Angus MacDonald and Callum Stewart will hope for involvement after their arrivals in DY10 this week.
