BOSS Neil MacFarlane praised Ryan Johnson’s reaction and performance against Darlington last time out.
Johnson, on loan from League 2 side Stevenage, put in a solid shift against the Quakers as the Reds picked up a 5-2 win.
That came on the back of a challenging afternoon for Johnson and the team as a whole, when they found themselves down 2-0 early at home to Ashton United before fighting back for a point.
The gaffer kept faith with Johnson and the 21-year-old responded with a cracking showing against Darlington, helping largely nullify the huge threat of their front three.
“He was fantastic – Styche, Ainge and Johnson are a threat,” recalled MacFarlane.
“But his response to a little shaky period last week was fantastic, and I think it is important to remember that these are young players.
“These young players need to play through those moments and he certainly did that [against Darlington].
“Like the rest of the group, he was fantastic.”
