ASHLEY Chambers struck a hat-trick has Harriers sealed back-to-back wins with a 4-1 triumph against Nuneaton Borough.

Chambers slammed in a fine opener before the visitors levelled prior to the break.

Joe Ironside's penalty put Harriers back ahead soon after the break before a further brace - a well-timed header and a one-on-one after breaking free with the ball.

It was the second time in three home games Harriers netted a 4-1 home win.

Inside ten minutes, Harriers had seen a Chambers volley blocked and a rising effort from Williams thump off the bar, before Horsfall chipped over and McAlinden struck a low free-kick into the arms of goalkeeper Belford.

The opener came on 26 minutes, a deep ball in from Williams finding Chambers at the far post who struck a neat, angled finish, first time into the corner of the net.

Barely ten minutes later, Nuneaton were level with their first serious chance of the game, Allen's free kick parried wide by Hall for a corner, from which Townsend was left free to nudge into the net.

Harriers responded well, though. In the final minutes of the half, McAlinden blazed over from Chambers' pass before the latter saw a header saved.

The hosts regrouped well and were quickly ahead within three minutes; Chambers' shot handled in the area by Townsend, with Ironside stepping up to slam the ball beyond Belford.

Before the hour, Chambers saw a shot blocked before firing over, Ironside then driving firmly with a fine effort that Belford got behind and blocked decisively.

Ironside volleyed over on 67 minutes before Borough's Edmunds drove into the side netting; 2-1 becoming 3-1 with 79 on the clock when a delightful delivery into the area from McAlinden was nodded in at the far post by Chambers.

If that gave Aggborough the relief it needed, the only real wish for the vast majority inside the ground - not least a club scribe - was for Chambers, so tireless and determined yet so often bereft of luck and fortune - to seal his hat-trick.

The wish was granted with a minute left of normal time. There was a small slice of luck when a ball was deflected into his path, but the rest was his own quality. A well-timed run saw him played through, one-on-one, with Belford. With time and space ahead of him, Chambers had to keep his cool as the goalkeeper advanced towards him, firing the ball beyond his frame and into the back of the net.

BRANDON HALL is determined to help steer Harriers past their toughest challenge of the season at Aggborough on Saturday as the team host Nuneaton Borough.

Borough are rock bottom of National League North and enduring a torrid season both on and off the field.

They have, however, become a tougher nut to rack in recent weeks – performing well at league leaders Chorley in midweek before going down 2-0.

They travel to Aggborough with a certain freedom given their league position, which naturally only makes their threat more dangerous.

Hall spoke to the Harriers YouTube channel to look ahead to the tie, with Harriers heading back to Aggborough on the back of four points from two away games at Blyth Spartans and Ashton United.

The shot-stopper reflected: “Six would have been perfect, and it should have been!

“But we can only deal with what’s ahead of us and the game here on Saturday will be a good one.

“They’re looking to get up and out of the relegation zone and we’re looking to get up into the play-offs, so it’s going to be a tough game.

“There are no easy games and teams coming here, regardless of where they are in the table, always put on an extra good performance to try and beat us here.

“It will be a difficult game, but we are looking to get another win.”

With ten games to go, Harriers have potential points to win to claim a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

To do so, they’ll likely need to pick up three points against Borough and then some – with Hall noting that finding form in front of the home fans is also important.

“We need to keep a run going. We know where we want to be and know that those sorts of performances have to keep going.

“We can’t afford anything but a win on Saturday. [With] the amount of fans we get here, we need to be winning more games in front of those people.

“It would be nice to be winning more matches here and that’s what the fans deserve as well.”

Declan Weeks (knee) is edging closer to a return after a painful knee ligament injury sustained against Chester last month.

The midfielder has resumed light training but is unlikely to feature at the weekend, so too Nick Clayton-Phillips, who has been back at West Bromwich Albion this week for treatment on an ankle injury after being forced off against Blyth just under a week ago.

Milan Butterfield is expected back after international duty with Bermuda.

Kick-off at Aggborough Stadium on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
