Saturday: Harriers v Farsley

A look ahead to Saturday’s game at Aggborough…

HARRIERS had to settle for a battling point at Bradford Park Avenue in National League North.

Emmanuel Sonupe netted for the reds at the Horsfall on the stroke of half time, after Adam Nowakowski had earlier put the hosts in front.

In the end, a draw was a fair result although there were chances at both ends for that all-important winner.

Harriers were quick to start, nine minutes gone as Joe Ironside drew Steven Drench into a smart save, before Sonupe went within inches of a first-half goal as he looked to find the bottom corner with a shot on the angle.

McQuilkin's free-kick was comfortable for Drench later in the half, before an advancing run from Toulson saw him supply the danger for Avenue's strike, Nowakowski doing the honours from eight yards as he slid a finish past Brandon Hall.

That seemed to spark Harriers into life and they were soon level, Ironside the supplier this time as he picked up on Wright's good work before laying on a cross that Sonupe finished off.

Ironside had a couple of good chances in the second half to find the net himself and add to his team's score but his afternoon in front of goal was a luckless one, a header held by Drench being his best offering.

Harriers were the stronger of the two sides for much of the second period and twice went close themselves; Ngwatala driving the ball off the bar from ten yards out before Wright struck wildly off target soon after.

Three minutes of added time gave Avenue a corner but, Havern's driving header didn't go close enough.

HARRIERS travel to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday with top scorer Emmanuel Sonupe admitting he’s loving life at Aggborough right now.

The popular goal-getter has netted seven times from 12 starts so far this campaign.

It’s all since his move to Harriers, initially on loan at the back end of last season from EFL side Northampton Town.

One goal in a handful of appearances during that spell whetted the youngster’s appetite for more of the same.

After leaving the Cobblers in the summer, he was swift in making a return to Worcestershire.

He’s now enjoying one of the best runs of his career in terms of sustained first-team football, and the player admits he’s enjoying every minute.

“I came here last season and just started to enjoy my football again,” he explained.

“Right now I am enjoying it even more.

“I am just happy to be out there playing every week.

“To be starting games, getting 90 minutes and playing most of the games is really enjoyable.

“There wasn’t an U21 team at Northampton, just the first-team and the U18s, so I was lucky to get a game every two or three weeks.

“It’s really good to come here and get games week in, week out.”

Harriers journey to the Horsfall Stadium at the weekend knowing that games against the hosts often feature plenty of goals. In fact, 21 have been netted in just six meetings between the two since 2013.

“I am just happy to be out there playing every week."  Emmanuel Sonupe

Bradford have enjoyed a good start to the campaign, despite their exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Harrogate Town after a replay this week.

They sit in eighth position in the National League North table, just outside the play-offs and one point ahead of Harriers.

Sonupe added: “We’re picking up form now and we want to keep this buzz going.

“We’ll go there and try and get a result.

“We know, especially from last season, what we’ve [got] and it’s just about climbing up the table, slowly but surely.”

The reds will hand late fitness tests to Dan Bradley (calf) and James Pearson (hamstring) as the duo look to bounce back after missing and being withdrawn from the game at Newcastle Benfield respectively.

Kick-off at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
