Hemmings 4; Freemantle 51
ETHAN Freemantle bagged his fifth goal of the season to help Harriers through in the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Cheshunt.
The hassling striker notched in the second half for the Reds to double a lead that had been given to them by an early Ashley Hemmings effort.
Cheshunt struck a little over 90 seconds after going 2-0 down to half the deficit but, despite long spells of pressure, never really went close to scoring an equaliser as Tom Palmer and the Harriers defence stood firm in the end.
It was indeed the perfect start for Harriers. Hemmings needed just four minutes to break the deadlock. Freemantle had brought the ball forward well before Hemmings took it from him, bearing down on goal before finishing with aplomb.
Although it wasn't to be the first of a load of goals for Harriers on the day, it was definitely the start of a decent spell for the Reds, who went close through Caleb Richards' low shot and Gabby Rogers' rising effort soon after.
Only a good save from the goalkeeper prevented Alex Penny from heading in from a corner after 12 minutes before the same player whizzed past two barely a couple of minutes later, striking over.
Palmer saved well and low from Cheshunt's Adams as the hosts went close on 26 minutes, before Keziah Martin struck wide from distance and Ben Margetson nodded over the bar.
Good alertness in the final third ultimately won the game for Harriers early after the break. Ceesay had already won the ball well and shot across goal on 47 minutes before the second goal came four minutes later. Freemantle pressured goalkeeper Richardson into a hurried clearance that Rogers worked to Hemmings, his low cross stroked home by Freemantle who got the ultimate reward for his hard work.
The biggest frustration of the day came almost immediately after as Mo Camara headed home a corner to give Cheshunt an instant retort, and it took Harriers another ten minutes or so to fashion another chance that saw Freemantle nod a Shane Byrne ball wide of the target.
The remaining 20 minutes or so saw Harriers come under some real pressure as Cheshunt threw caution to the wind and went all out on attack - though it's also worth noting that Palmer barely had a further save of note to make as the visiting rearguard did its job.
The Reds might well have snatched a third goal in the 89th minute, but Zak Brown's scooped shot landed just wide when it looked like it might just be heading in. As it was, Harriers headed in - to the next round of the world's most famous cup competition.
