Gardiner hails Harriers togetherness

Management reaction after Alfreton win…

Matt Gardiner

MATT GARDINER has hailed the ‘in it together’ attitude of the club after Harriers dug in to seal a comeback win against Alfreton Town on Saturday.

The Reds survived something of a scare as Alfreton took the lead through a Tom Allan goal in the first half.

And while the visitors had the better of things up to the break, Harriers then took control and, through goals from Joe Ironside and Elton Ngwatala, won the game.

The team were helped in no small part by the supporters inside Aggborough, the vast majority of the 1,600 crowd staying right behind the lads.

That’s something that wasn’t lost on Gardiner as he reflected on the game at full time.

“We said weeks ago that we are a work in progress,” he said.

“We are looking to try different things to get the lads on the ball in certain areas and we’ve got a lot to do – there’s no hiding away from that – and we’re making little steps every week.

“You can see the turnover we’ve had and we have got to be all going in the same direction.

“So from the supporters point of view [comparing] what they were watching last year and what they’re watching now.

…”we have all got to stay supportive and get over the line together because that’s the great thing about Kidderminster.” Matt Gardiner

“We ask for patience from the players, the supporters and everybody because we’re one club and we want to get back to those performances at home that made Aggborough a fortress.

“There are going to be teething problems… but as we were trying different things, we have all got to stay supportive and get over the line together because that’s the great thing about Kidderminster.

“When we got the goal today and the fans were behind the team it was fantastic.”

On a tough but rewarding day at the office, Gardiner added: “In the second half, when we settled down and started moving the ball around, you could see the game opening up.

“I was pleased for the players to get the result.”

Harriers head to Brackley on Bank Holiday Monday before returning to Aggborough to face Boston United next weekend.
