HARRIERS’ journey in the Buildbase FA Trophy came to an end for another season at Stockport thanks to a 3-0 Second Round replay defeat.
The reds were dominant for large spells for the game and racked up more than a dozen good chances to net on the night, but were made to pay as County struck three times without reply – though two of those came in the last 15 minutes.
In the first half, Harriers created chance after chance with the likes of Dan Bradley, Liam Truslove and Emmanuel Sonupé all looking threatening. Even inside the first ten minutes, Brown saw a shot snapped off target before Bradley’s deflected skewed wide.
After Hall had denied County’s Dixon, Croasdale curled a beauty of an effort narrowly wide before turning provider for Truslove who drove wide – all before the midway point of the half.
Just after that, though, County were in front as Turner’s well-taken shot beat Hall – though Ormson did well right up at the other end as, within three minutes, Truslove directed an effort towards the top corner that needed parrying wide.
Either side of the break, a brace of Sonupé efforts were followed by Brown, Bradley and Croasdale who also had attempts, Pearson then almost netting with an outrageous attempt on the hour that just flashed past the bar on the hour.
Austin and Sonupé then would go close yet again but County were again brutal in their punishment with a quarter of an hour left to play as a driven attempt from McKenna deflected past Hall.
Harriers did still try to push forward but, hitting them on the counter, the Hatters won an injury-time penalty that Dixon converted to add a little more harsh a look to the score line as John Eustace’s men made their exit from the competition.
