HARRIERS meet FC United of Manchester on Saturday, just over a decade after the first ever meeting between the two.
Established by fans of Manchester United looking for a change and a new endeavour, FC United were formed in 2005 and, despite not being at parity to Harriers in terms of a level of competitive football until 2016 as they charged through the divisions, the two teams did have cause to meet in 2007.
It was a curious choice for a pre-season friendly, with former United boss Karl Marginson and Aggborough assistant manager Neil Howarth having played together in their Macclesfield Town days. Brian Smikle netted for Harriers in a 1-1 draw.
It would be some nine years before the two outfits would cross swords again, and this time it was a league fixture. FC United returned to Aggborough and took all three points in a 2-0 victory in October 2016, wrapping up a league double with a 1-0 win at Broadhurst Park the following March.
Last season at least saw Harriers get off the mark in terms of wins. The team won both league matches – Emmanuel Sonupé’s brace sealing a 2-1 win away from home before George Waring was among the scorers in a 4-0 Aggborough success back in January of this year.
