It may feel like we are a long way away from the 20/21 season, but it is already the time for current Year 11s to start thinking about their next steps.
Are you looking for full time football training with a proven pathway to a full-time first team, as well as gaining qualifications that provide a route into the sports industry or university?
If yes, then Harriers Academy’s U19s programme could be the perfect option for you!
Our boys programme, which has been running for almost a decade, has seen numerous players – past and present – progress through the ranks to reach the first team and beyond, is now joined by our U19s girls programme, the KHFC Girls Academy.
WHAT COURSES ARE ON OFFER?
Level 2 – BTEC Certificate in Sport (one year)
Level 3 – (year one) BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport/BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport
Level 3 – (year two) BTEC National Diploma in Sport/ BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport
“…Having a full time first team on our doorstep makes this an amazing place for Academy players to be!…” Mark Muddyman – U19s Academy Manager
CAN I JOIN?
Both our U19s boys programme and the KHFC Girls Academy offer the same qualifications, full time training, and a route into university, as well as a pathway to first team football. Both programmes are available for students aged 16-18.
WHAT ARE THE PROGRESSION ROUTES?
The natural progression is for players from our U19s to progress into our U23s squad. This isn’t a given, and every individual player will be different. Within our U23s programme, there are two routes to go down: a Football Business Management and Sports Coaching Foundation Degree (2 years), or a Personal Training (PT) course (1 year). Others may progress onto other Universities across the country to continue, if they wish, on a sports pathway in areas such as coaching, teaching, sports therapy, analysis, disability sports and sports business and management.
NOTABLE U19s ACADEMY ALUMNI
Luke Maxwell – the midfielder progressed through to earn his first team contract – aged 17 – and 47 appearances later, in January 2016, he moved to Birmingham City in a £75,000 deal.
Tyrone Williams – joining Harriers Academy in it’s first season, Tyrone progressed through to the first team and made 85 appearances, before a move to National League side Solihull Moors.
“…There is a genuine pathway to the first team, it’s not just something that people say, there are players – past and present – that have been proof of that…” Ewan Mountjoy – U23s goalkeeper, U19s graduate
Tom Palmer – a goalkeeper, Tom worked his way through the Academy, and has been in and around the first team for four seasons. He has also returned to work with Academy players as goalkeeping coach.
Jaiden White – a more recent example, White joined Harriers Academy ahead of the 18/19 season following spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City – choosing Harriers as his pathway to first team football. He achieved this, making his debut in January 2019, before signing his first professional contract just weeks after his 17th birthday. While with the club, White was also given opportunities to play on trial with then Premier League side, Fulham.
For both our U19s programmes, the next open trial is Friday 1st November 2019.
