ASHLEY HEMMINGS’ fourth goal of the season helped Harriers on their way to a 2-0 win over Blyth Spartans at Aggborough.

Hemmings netted after just 12 minutes to cap a strong start for Russ Penn’s men. A win that, ultimately, never looked in doubt was secured by a close-range goal from Max Taylor after the break

The win was the team’s first home success of the term, and a result that continues a small but solid run of form – three successive League wins for the first time in over two years.

It was solid enough that Harriers secured back-to-back clean sheets without needing to truly extend goalkeeper Luke Simpson – although Spartans did hit the bar in added time.

A bright start – arguably Harriers best of the season – got its rewards with the Hemmings goal. Omari Sterling was on hand with the assist with both the days’ goals, first teasing Blyth with the ball on the edge of the area which then ran free, Hemmings gladly slotting it home.

It wasn’t a day packed full of clear-cut chances, but Ethan Freemantle went close to a first senior goal in the dying stages of the half when he was played through and entered the area. The youngster wasn’t quite able to guide his shot accurately enough, however, and went wide.

The second goal came on the hour and put Harriers in a commanding position. Again Sterling provided with a dangerous free-kick ball that was well attacked – skipper Lewis Montrose giddily celebrated in style, though it was Taylor who’d got the final touch over the line.

Two was almost three twice inside a minute; with 64 on the clock Sterling saw a well-taken free-kick crash just wide before Hemmings, errantly it seems, was flagged offside having headed the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Taylor nodded over with a good chance with around 20 minutes left, while a late foray for Blyth into Harriers territory almost reduced arrears, the ball clipping the barĀ  before being sliced wide in added time.
