HARRIERS journey to Southport on Saturday for the first match of a busy Bank Holiday weekend in National League North.
The Reds will head to the Sangrounders looking to build on a solid start in the first couple of games, while the hosts seek their first win of the term.
The weekend represents the first test for many a squad across the ‘North’ as they find resources and bodies stretched – literally and figuratively!
Boss Russ Penn insisted that the vast majority are all in the same boat in that regard, and he was keeping his focus firmly on Liam Watson’s men.
He told our YouTube channel: “It is [tough], but it is the same for everybody, so everyone is going to be tired on Monday!
“The full focus for us is on Southport away. We’ll go there looking to win the game and put in a good performance.”
On Southport and their own start, he added: “We’re against a team who’ve done really well in the last two games and probably haven’t got the results they’d wanted.
“Liam Watson has built a good side there and we’ll give them the utmost respect… they score goals; they drew to Gloucester in the first game and should’ve got a point against Spennymoor last week, and those are two teams who are going to be up there.
“It’s a big pitch, they’re direct in how they play but they’re proud of how they play it and have goalscorers in the team.
“They’re hard working and it’s a Liam Watson team – he’s managed at this level longer than most managers have and I have the most respect for him.”
The gaffer confirmed that Keith Lowe will be available for selection after missing last weekend’s victory over Blyth Spartans at Aggborough.
There will be further close monitoring of skipper Lewis Montrose after he also missed that clash, with Cliff Moyo (injury) and Amari Morgan-Smith (suspension) the confirmed absentees.
Southport have urged Harriers fans to buy their match tickets online in advance of the day to avoid any lengthy queues on the match day.
Kick-off at Southport on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
On Bank Holiday Monday, Harriers host Chester at Aggborough (3pm). Fans can save money and avoid queuing by purchasing tickets in advance of their visit.
