LEWIS Montrose’s first goal of the season wasn’t enough to help Harriers to a much-needed win as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chorley.

The midfielder found the net with a rare strike to break the deadlock with just over 20 minutes to play, with the visitors down to ten.

Chorley would level matters not long after to extend a run of games without a win for the Reds -even though there was plenty to be encouraged by on the night.

The visitors had two sights of goal in the opening ten minutes but struck off target with both, before Harriers were forced into a change after Geraldo Bajrami went off injured.

Seven minutes later Chorley again went close as Tomlinson shot into the side netting, Hall then lobbing Simpson and firing over with ten minutes of the half to play.

A strong Caleb Richards run before the break was almost rewarded with a goal only for his low shot to be saved, before Lowe headed over from a corner to end the half.

Nine minutes after the restart only the woodwork kept Omari Sterling at bay as he drove low and saw an effort ping off the post with goalkeeper Urwin beaten, with Chorley then reduced in numbers after Ali was dismissed for two yellows.

Harriers began to turn up the pressure and, eight after the hour, were rewarded with a goal – a ball nodded back into the path of Montrose who stuck it firmly, first time beyond the dive of Urwin and into the net.

Amari Morgan-Smith directed a header wide three minutes later, but it wasn’t long before Chorley found themselves level; Tomlinson winning the ball inside his own half before advancing unchallenged to the edge of the Harriers area, firing low beyond Simpson.

They then tightened up to protect a hard-earned away point with ten men and did the job successfully – Harriers were always on the front foot but never created a serious chance of note in the game’s final minutes.
