HARRIERS had to settle for a share of the spoils again in National League North after a 1-1 draw at Blyth.

Russ Penn’s men started on the front foot and with a real intensity, which got them a deserved goal on ten minutes after a corner saw Geraldo Bajrami denied by the goalkeeper, who was helpless to prevent Amari Morgan-Smith nudging the ball over the line at close range.

Spartans were level by the half-hour, though, after Toby Lees met a dangerous corner delivery with a good header that nestled into the back of the net.

The goals aside, it was not an afternoon packed with chances by any stretch, but Harriers probably had the best of the rest in the second half, 68 on the clock when sub Ethan Freemantle nodded wide from a Hemmings cross when in a great position.

The biggest talking point of the day came inside the last ten minutes when Luke Simpson was sent off, adjudged to have handled the ball outside the area.

Mark Carrington took his place in goal for what remained of the game, with the defence in front of him putting in a shift to ensure he went reasonably untested.
