HARRIERS season came to an end with a play-off defeat at the hands of Boston United at Aggborough Stadium.

A lively Pilgrims controlled much of a stop-start first half and took the lead on the stroke of half time after prolific marksman Danny Elliott finished from close range. Amari Morgan-Smith had earlier had the best Harriers chance of the half with a dipping effort that landed on the roof of the net.

The Reds were brighter and more purposeful in the second period and should’ve been level five after the restart – Hemmings heading at the far post and drawing a simply superb save from Marcus Dewhurst who clawed the ball away from on the line.

On 65 minutes Hemmings did beat Dewhurst, though, the best part of 4,000 fans erupting after the Harriers man took his tally for the season to 18, swiftly turning the ball and darting between two Boston players before curling the ball beyond the goalkeeper and into the top corner.

Dewhurst then denied Sterling as Harriers searched for a way to edge in front, but the pendulum soon swung back in favour of the Pilgrims. They won the ball and crossed into the area, Luke Simpson and Alex Penny both going for the same ball, an own goal the devastating result.

Deflated, the hosts were unable to find a way back – though Sterling drive one late free-kick wide – and it was arguably Boston who finished more strongly with Simpson saving from Seriki and Elliott flashing off target.
