Saturday: Harriers ready for Bradford

Harriers take to the road on Saturday afternoon….

RUSS Penn has called for a reaction from the whole Harriers squad as the team travel to Bradford (Park Avenue) on Saturday.

The Aggborough boss was less than impressed after watching his side fall to a lacklustre defeat to Curzon Ashton on Tuesday.

He knows the side didn’t do anywhere near enough to seriously hurt the Nash, and wants to ensure the Reds are much more at it at the Horsfall Stadium at the weekend.

While the imminent return of striker Amari Morgan-Smith will help at the top end of the pitch, the gaffer is aware there remains enough attacking intent in his number to get results in any case.

“We’ve got the big man back next week which is fantastic for us,” he said. “Until that happens we’re going with what we’ve got, and there’s more than enough firepower for us to put pressure on other teams.

“[We were] fantastic on Saturday without putting the ball in the net, and not very good on Tuesday so we are looking for a reaction from the whole squad.”

Morgan-Smith is on course to feature next weekend while Alex Penny, too, is back in training.

Neither will feature against Avenue, with Penn expecting a tough test against the side who were leading 2-0 at Scarborough in midweek before being pegged back for a draw.

They have two draws and a defeat from their opening trio of matches, with that match coming after an opening-day set-back against King’s Lynn and a stalemate against Kettering.

The gaffer went on to say: “I have a great respect for Mark, he’s done a fantastic job there in a couple of spells at the football club, in fact it could be more than a couple.

“He knows the club inside out and they’ve got a new way of playing this season.

“I watched their game against Scarborough from Tuesday night and they were excellent.

“It’s a really tough game for us.”

Kick-off at Bradford (Park Avenue) on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
