Wednesday: Harriers v Chester

A look ahead to Wednesday night’s encounter with Chester at Aggborough….

HARRIERS will be part of television history on Wednesday night as they host Chester at Aggborough Stadium.

The two sides meet in what will be the first ever regular season match from Step 2 to be televised.

The BT Sport cameras will be at Aggborough and will be eager to feature an entertaining clash, something which seems a safe bet given the history between the sides.

There has been just one goalless draw between Harriers and Chester in the 16 meetings so far, with 53 goals shared over that time – the vast majority of the games being in the last decade.

It’ll be a tough test for Harriers. Chester are arguably the in-form side in the division having been beaten just once in National League North since August.

Superb form under boss Calum McIntyre since then has propelled them up the table, and the Seals have won their last three league ties on the bounce.

Harriers will continue to assess the injured Shane Byrne and Nathaniel Knight-Percival, but it’s hoped both are nearing a comeback in the coming weeks from back and ankle issues respectively.

Alex Penny remains a longer-term absentee, while Ethan Freemantle is ruled out following his head injury against Alfreton on Friday night.

Looking ahead to Wednesday night’s clash in his programme notes, Russ Penn said: Chester are on a great run and are playing with a lot of confidence which is getting them results.

“They’ve got a good squad of players and it’s another tough test for us, but these are the games you want.

“For us to be chosen to stage the first Step 2 game of a regular season to be broadcast on national television is a fantastic achievement and is a great reflection on the progress that we’ve made as a football club over the last few years.

“On and off the pitch, from Richard, the Board, the staff behind the scenes and us as players, management and supporters, we can all take a share of the credit for that so hopefully it’s a good, entertaining occasion for everyone involved and that we can get the right result.”

Kick-off at Aggborough Stadium on Wednesday is 7:30pm.
