Saturday: Harriers v Bromley

Look ahead to Saturday’s visit of Bromley to Aggborough….

RUSS Penn wants Harriers to start building home form as they welcome Bromley to Aggborough in the National League on Saturday.

Harriers tasted defeat on the road last time out, a first competitive loss since March handed out at AFC Fylde.

A chance to bounce back from that comes against The Ravens this weekend, with Penn knowing his team need to do more on home soil than they did last time around.

Getting wins at Aggborough proved largely elusive during 2023-24, so he wants to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later.

It will not be easy against a side who were in last season’s National League play-offs, another sign of how satisfied the gaffer is to have Harriers back at Step 1.

“It’s another tough game,” he explained.

“It’s a London team coming up north so it’s great – great to be at this level and we’ll welcome Andy and his lads to the stadium.

“If we can get something on Saturday, I want to produce home form this season.

“It is vital for the crowds that we’re getting now that we give them something back as well.

“It’s all about winning games.

“First and foremost, the priority is to get as many points on the board as we possibly can at home and see where that takes you.

“With the stadium and pitch we’ve got and the crowd we produce, we want to be reaping the rewards from that.”

Harriers will be without Matt Preston this weekend as the defender recovers from a calf injury that will keep him out for at least another 10 days or so.

Also missing will be skipper Shane Byrne who this week had knee surgery.

Penn explained: “It was a really good surgery – he [didn’t] need a reconstruction, which was always the fear, it was just a repair.

“We’ve been told it’s 12 weeks back on the pitch playing, which is great news.

“As a club, we’ve scanned him, he’s had a Consultancy and the operation all within ten days, so I have got to be very grateful to Richard Lane and the medical department for doing it so quickly.

“He’s on the road to recovery… he can start looking and putting a fixture in his head.”

After two tough outings against Halifax and Barnet that both brought about 2-0 defeats, Bromley got their first point of the season on the board in midweek with a home draw against Wealdstone.

Saturday will be just the fourth ever meeting between the two sides, the last being a 1-0 league defeat for the Reds in 2016.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
