HARRIERS have the tough task of trying to inflict a first defeat of the season on high-flying Solihull Moors at Aggborough on Saturday evening.
The two sides come together in DY10 for the live TNT Sport clash with Harriers looking to build on an unbeaten home start and Moors yet to taste defeat anywhere this term.
Andy Whing’s strong starters have notable victories over Oldham, Dorking and Ebbsfleet among others this term, and battled out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Oxford City last time out.
Now perennially among the bigger hitters in the division, they’ll come having started “like a house on fire”, says Harriers boss Russ Penn.
He commented: “They’re a regular National League side who are pushing for promotion, so we’re expecting a top team coming Saturday.
“They’re near the top of the league and they haven’t lost this season so we want to be the first team to beat them.
“They’ve started really well. I like Andy Whing as a Manager, he has a great reputation and did really well at Banbury.
“He fully deserves the job at the level and they’ve started like a house on fire.
“For me, it’s two big teams coming together and we want to take the three points.”
With a later kick off and the factor of a first televised Aggborough game of the season added to the mix, it’s shaping up to be quite the night.
Penn added: “It’s a nice local derby and loads of players and coaching staff know each other.
“It’s on the box, a later kick off and under the lights, so it’ll be great.
“These are the games we all want to play in and it will be no different on Saturday.”
Penn confirmed that Shane Byrne (knee) and Matt Preston (calf) remain out of action, but that Kyrstian Pearce re-joined the squad on Thursday after international duty with Barbados.
Harriers and Solihull Moors have never met in a competitive men’s fixture, but we’ve dug through the archives for this dripping wet set of highlights from a pre-season friendly a number of years ago.
Moors were formed as a result of the merger of Moor Green and Solihull Borough – both teams having faced Harriers regularly in the decades prior.
The list of players to have played for both – currently and in prior years – is lengthy, including the likes of Liam Daly, Craig Hinton, Lee Vaughan and dozens besides.
Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 5:30pm.
