HARRIERS suffered a first home defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss to Solihull Moors on Saturday evening.

The home side had dominated the vast majority of proceedings, particularly in the second half, but were left to rue a costly goal early on that ultimately decided the game.

With time and space in the area with just five gone, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain ought to have headed Harriers in front but glanced wide of the target.

Ten minutes later, Solihull had the lead, albeit with a touch of fortune. Beck jumped to meet a delivery into the area, nodding it on to Warburton who’d strayed offside. Nevertheless, it was an all-too-comfortable header for the former Stockport man as he finished past Dibble.

Up at the other end, Alex Penny nodded a free kick at the far post on to the shoulder of a defender and in turn on to the woodwork – this after Barry Maguire had already seen a distance effort deflected on to the bar.

Two shy of the hour, Harriers went close again and forced a good save from Simkin in goal. Richards supplied Lambert with the ball, who took a touch before shooting, Simkin’s legs dealing with the threat.

Half chances came and went the way of the hosts as they continued to control the flow of openings. On 77 minutes Simkin was at it again, pulling out a strong stop to thwart Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort from just outside the area.

With five left on the clock, sub Ashley Hemmings took Harriers even closer, turning superbly into a pocket of space halfway into the Solihull half before letting fly with a fizzing effort that beat Simkin but, unfortunately for Harriers, also his far post.
