HARRIERS suffered defeat at Aggborough on Tuesday with a 2-1 defeat to Barnet.
The Bees did their damage with a well-taken free kick and a close-range header in the first half.
Krystian Pearce did pull a goal back with a header of his own in the second half, but Barnet held on for their win.
The visitors had their noses in front as early as the eighth minute, Anthony Hartigan stepping up to a free kick and curling it beautifully past Christian Dibble and into the top corner with little anyone could do to halt it.
There was, within a minute, a big chance for Harriers to level as Alex Penny won a header from a long throw into the area, the ball then falling back to him to volley narrowly over the bar.
Barnet’s second goal on 28 minutes was, unlike the first, decidedly more avoidable. A ball was whipped into the box without challenge and, with players converging, Callum Stead was able to time his run to nod the ball home.
Five minutes later Harriers had a good chance to make it 2-1 when Bailey Hobson was played in while in the area. Favouring his right foot, the on-loan Chesterfield man took possibly one touch too many and ended with a firm effort over the bar.
There were few moments of quality early in the second half but just past the hour Harriers did get on the score sheet through Pearce as he rose to power home Leesley’s corner superbly.
Dibble was on hand to produce a good save to prevent Barnet re-establishing a two-goal lead, tipping a Idris Kanu header over the bar after it threatened to sneak in.
With six left Dibble was brave in coming out to meet a shot from Zak Brunt as Harriers lost possession – the effort lacked the power needed to find the net and Penny was able to clear, the goalkeeper coming off worse as he and Brunt collided.
Harriers had late appeals for a penalty waved away after Pearce appeared to have been pulled in the area, but The Bees held on to consign Harriers to defeat.
