HARRIERS bagged their second win of the term with a richly-deserved 1-0 victory at Dorking Wanderers.
Bailey Hobson’s second goal of his loan spell earned Russ Penn’s men a victory, one they were more than worthy of.
Arguably the only disappointment on the night was that Harriers didn’t win by a greater margin, such was their control of the game particularly in the first half.
With just 40 seconds on the clock the chances started coming when Amari Morgan-Smith saw a header save, before two good chances from Gerry McDonagh saw him have an effort blocked after good work from Sammy Robinson, before a further, low finish was well saved by home stopper Harrison Male.
Hobson was next to take aim with 13 minutes played when his driven, low effort fizzed wide of the upright, before Alex Penny was denied an opening as covering bodies got back to block his shot following a poor clearance from the goalkeeper.
Tom Blair had Dorking’s first real sight of goal in between, but Christian Dibble was equal to that and held well – before another Hobson chance on 38 minutes went wide on the angle.
The on-loan Chesterfield man was only thwarted for a few more minutes – he had Harriers in front with 41 on the clock, running on to a cheeky backheel from Joe Leesley before slamming the ball into the top corner.
Almost from the restart Harriers were close to doubling that lead with the home defence at sea. Morgan-Smith’s header beat Male but not his woodwork, with the bar coming to his rescue.
Past the hour, Krystian Pearce went within an inch of getting a deep free kick on target for Harriers before Morgan-Smith lifted over the bar with 73 on the clock.
With just under a quarter-hour to go, Dorking had their best chance of the night. It fell to Faircomb, six yards out as Dorking upped the pressure, but his effort was almost too powerful and thumped the bar and bounced away.
Male held from Hobson with five left to play before, deep in added time, Jason Prior shot straight into Dibble’s gloves when through on goal.
