HARRIERS fell to a single-goal defeat as their first visit to York Road in Maidenhead ended in a 1-0 reverse.
This match was never one packed full of chances or major talking points and, after a very quiet opening period, Harriers did have the first chance of the day when goalkeeper Ross did well to block from Ryan McLean as the loanee shot on the angle.
Moments later, Christian Dibble up at the other the end stood up excellently to deny the onrushing Smith as he shot, one-on-one, from just inside the area.
Two more openings for Harriers presented themselves before the break. On 35, Jack Lambert’s free kick was headed wide by Morgan-Smith before the striker stretched to meet a Hemmings cross, a low shot smothered by Cross.
Lambert got close to getting the breakthrough with just four gone after the restart as he tried to finish from a Hemmings knock-down, but a good block kept the effort away from the target.
Dibble turned an effort from Nathaniel-George aside four minutes later, but the hosts were ahead when Petit finished tidily inside the area after the visitors were unable to clear their lines.
Hobson crashed an effort wide of the upright with real force as Harriers searched for a breakthrough, but the best chance of a leveller fell the way of sub Gold Omotayo as he rose highest to meet a ball into the area, planting a header just wide of the post.
