HARRIERS come up against a Woking side on a high as the two teams take their quest for survival into this weekend.
For their part, The Reds have won six wins from eight in the National League under Phil Brown to lift themselves from the foot of the table.
They still remain in the bottom four but are decidedly closer to the coveted ‘line’ going into the final batch of games for the season.
Similarly to Harriers, Woking have undergone a change of management this season with Michael Doyle replacing Darren Sarll.
A run of consistent results has been harder to come by in recent months, but they’ve been given a huge boost in the last couple of home games.
A point at Kingfield against Wealdstone last Saturday was followed up by a fantastic result in midweek, coming from 2-1 down to defeat free-flowing Gateshead 3-2.
That’s enough to make clear to Brown that The Cards are in good knock.
Nevertheless, he wants to complete what would be a remarkable last week for Harriers by winning a third successive away game on Saturday, on the heels of joy at Oldham and Solihull.
He said: “We’ve sampled that feeling of playing against Gateshead, they can play some good football.
“I believe a change of management, a change of system where Woking is concerned has contributed to a good performance.
“They were 2-1 down with 10, 15 minutes to go and they’ve managed to win the game 3-2.
“For me, that’s a sign that they’ve got a bit of character, so we’re not taking the opposition for granted, will never [do so] at this football club.
“What we’ve got to do is bring our A Game to the table and then, defensively, put our hearts, minds, bodies and souls on the line.
“When we do all of that, we’ve got a better chance of winning, it’s as simple as that.
“If somebody had thrown a point at me… I’d probably have taken it at the start of the week, but I won’t accept it now.”
Harriers hope to have Shane Byrne available for at least some part of Saturday’s game.
The skipper missed the midweek win at Soilhull with a hamstring injury, but Brown added: “Shane would, I would think, be available for selection.
“It’s great competition in there because Regan has shown he can more than play in that position, and Browny [Zak Brown] is pulling up trees at the moment.”
The boss added that Matt Preston and Sammy Robinson have also stepped up their recovery from injury by taking part in light training this week.
Krystian Pearce is ruled out of the Woking tie through suspension.
Kick off at Woking’s Laithwaite Community Stadium on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
Harriers fans should consider buying match tickets in advance, which they can do online via the Woking website. Ticket prices increase by £3.00 once online sales end at noon on Saturday.
